The Advanced Care Clinic provides around-the-clock evaluation for patients who need a higher level of medical assessment and may require hospitalization. Our team focuses on understanding your condition, completing necessary testing and determining the most appropriate next step in your care.

The Advanced Care Clinic is here to make sure you receive the right care, at the right time, in the right setting.  

Patients we serve 

The Advanced Care Clinic is intended for patients whose condition needs advanced evaluation and may require hospital admission.

The Advanced Care Clinic is here for: 

  • Patients currently under the care of a UT Health San Antonio surgeon or specialist who has referred them for an appointment. 

  • Patients with cancer who have been referred by their UT Health San Antonio oncologist.

  • Patients currently under the care of a UT Health San Antonio Primary Care provider or associated provider who have been referred to them for an appointment. 

For common illnesses, routine appointments or non-urgent medical concerns, patients should schedule an appointment with their primary care provider or medical specialist. Find a UT Health San Antonio provider.

Conditions Not Treated at the Advanced Care Clinic

Currently, the Advanced Care Clinic cannot provide appointments for: 

  • Patients under 18 years of age 

  • Severe or multisystem trauma 

  • Stroke symptoms, such as sudden weakness, speech difficulty or vision changes 

  • Heart attack, heart failure or cardiac arrest symptoms 

  • Conditions requiring cardiac catheterization or advanced heart procedures 

  • Pregnancy or obstetric-related conditions 

  • Transplant-related conditions 

Important to Know: The Advanced Care Clinic is not an emergency room, urgent care or walk-in clinic. For life-threatening emergencies, call 9-1-1.

  • Cardiac or heart concerns

  • Stroke symptoms

  • Traumatic injuries

  • Acute psychiatric issues 

Patients with these conditions should seek care from an emergency department or a specialty care practice best equipped to treat them. For life-threatening emergencies, call 9-1-1. 

Appointments 

A physician's referral is required to schedule an appointment. Appointments are available every day, 24-hours a day. Please refer to your after-visit summary or discharge paperwork for how to contact your provider or care team. View your care team information in MyChart.

What to expect

Park and enter from James P. Hollers Drive, behind the UT Health San Antonio Multispecialty and Research Hospital.  View driving directions.

Check-in at the front desk and a member of our team will escort you to an exam room as quickly as possible. 

During Your Visit 
After check-in, our team of experienced professionals will escort you to a private exam room to complete a thorough evaluation. The clinic is fully-equipped to perform complete lab testing and advanced imaging to precisely guide care decisions. 

After Your Visit 
You will receive clear next-step instructions and follow-up recommendations within your after-visit-summary viewable in MyChart . If you require additional care our team will help coordinate an appointment referral, or if necessary, seamless admission to our hospital.
