Empowering Health, Inspiring Hope

Bridging Excellence

UT Health San Antonio is constructing the sky bridge which will connect the Mays Cancer Center to the Multispecialty and Research Hospital.

Pursuing Progress

The bridge, weighing 360,800 lbs. or 180 tons, is being be built on-site in seven sections over three months. Once complete, the bridge will be the approximate length of 1.4 football fields or ~2 city blocks (446’ long). It will be approximately 28 feet from Floyd Curl to the underside of the bridge, or about 4 ‘Wemby’s’ tall.

The bridge also provides high-tech integration capabilities to include the ability to transfer data from one building to the other, as well as a tube system (like what you see at a bank) to deliver lab samples securely, safely and quickly between the hospital and the cancer center.

Reaching Milestones

This state-of-the-art structure is a significant milestone as we move towards the opening of the new hospital allowing for the expansion of services and expert care while creating an efficient and integrated environment for patients and their families.
